In the UK, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 goes camping

Its name is Hotel Hyundai, and it’s an electric vehicle (EV)-powered retreat motivated by market research demonstrating that customers in the UK are seeking ecologically friendly and cost-effective sustainable transport solutions.

The Hotel Hyundai location in Essex was established by the Korean automaker and is overseen by British culinary critic and Masterchef Grace Dent .

HYUNDAI HOTEL IS POWERED BY EVS There are three main sections to the hotel. A restaurant and bar, the main guest suites, and an outdoor movie theater. Each suite has a dedicated Hyundai Ioniq 5 to connect into for electricity, emphasizing the car’s amazing battery capacity and V2x capabilities. To wit:

The Ioniq 5 in each guest suite powers everything in it, including the lights and appliances. The restaurant/bar area receives its own Hyundai and carries on the sustainability theme with a menu of foods and beverages made with locally sourced ingredients—even the espresso maker is run by an Ioniq! The Ioniq 5’s V2x functionality enables it to power the movie area’s projector, outside speakers, and popcorn maker. Vehicle to load (V2L) or vehicle to grid (V2G) functionality is being added to an increasing number of EVs. This enables EVs to function as both a battery backup for the grid and as a mobile generator when there is no power from the grid to run appliances or accessories. Hyundai appears to be attempting to dispel some misunderstandings regarding EVs’ alleged “strain” on the grid by using this capacity to demonstrate how its Ioniq 5 EV can power a vacation rental.

Even though it seems a little contrived, I think this is a terrific approach to showcase the car’s capabilities. After all, why go camping if you don’t want to? But I guess we can debate if glamping is better than camping in the comments. Enjoy!
