BYD Lands Major Rental Contract

We’ve covered a number of agreements between EV manufacturers and rental car businesses here at CleanTechnica. These tales are significant for a reason, too.

I don’t know about you, but renting a car can be sort of fun if you want to try something new without committing long-term. For a few days, driving even a cheap economy automobile can be entertaining and interesting. Similar to returning to your own bed after a trip (even if you miss the hotel/resort), you’ll likely be happy to go back to your regular car at that time if the car wasn’t wonderful. However, if it’s a good automobile, you could begin to consider acquiring one of your own and parking it in your driveway permanently.

The truth is that these alliances put a lot of butts in seats in addition to giving the manufacturer an opportunity to sell a lot more cars. EVs won’t appeal to everyone, but many people will like them and want one of their own. BYD is now participating in the rental market.

For the European market, BYD, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, and has partnered with SIXT , a global automobile rental firm. The agreement heralds the start of a long-term relationship with a common goal to hasten the adoption of electric mobility. In this year’s Q4 of 2022, buyers will be able to purchase the first pure-electric BYDs.

Electric vehicles will help SIXT and BYD meet their commitment to cutting carbon emissions. The first deliveries of the thousands of pure-electric BYD automobiles that SIXT has ordered as part of this collaboration will commence in Q4 2022. Furthermore, it is predicted that SIXT would add 100,000 more BYD electric vehicles to this first order over the course of six years.

BYD Europe has been a leader in zero-emission public transportation for more than ten years. It is now introducing green solutions to the car rental market through its cooperation with SIXT. BYD will assist SIXT in achieving its objective of having 70% to 90% of its fleet electrified by 2030. BYD has over ten years of experience and has completed numerous sustainable projects.

The first users of BYD cars will be found in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the UK, out of SIXT’s 2,100 outlets in 100 nations. It’s an exciting chance to attract new clients as a top global mobility provider with a wide range of premium services, including ride hailing, car sharing, and rental cars.

“A key component of the BYD business strategy is cooperation. As we make our debut in the rental market, we are excited to begin working with SIXT, the car rental company with the fastest-growing brand value in the world and a crucial key partner for BYD, said Michael Shu, General Manager and Managing Director, BYD Europe and International Cooperation Division. “We can create our green goals together by first starting in Europe thanks to our united vision. We want to motivate SIXT customers with our newest EV technology goods and advancements. For BYD, these are exciting times as our industry-leading solutions expand access to and the range of alternatives for electric transportation. We anticipate having a fruitful and protracted cooperation with SIXT.

Starting with the ATTO 3 SUV, SIXT will provide customers with a variety of high-tech BYD pure-electric vehicles. With a premium feel and extensive equipment, all models are perfectly matched to the demands and expectations of European clients.

For more than 20 years, BYD has been creating power batteries, including the revolutionary Blade Battery. According to BYD, the company’s expertise extends beyond electric vehicles and includes knowledge of energy management and charging infrastructure. This puts BYD in a unique position to offer comprehensive e-mobility solutions. Both businesses will look into further ways they may collaborate sustainably in various parts of the world as their partnership with SIXT grows.

“SIXT provides its consumers with simple, adaptable, and unrestricted mobility every day. BYD is the largest eMobility car manufacturer in the world with over one million units expected to be produced between January and August 2022, according to Vinzenz Pflanz, Chief Business Officer in charge of sales and vehicle acquisition at SIXT SE. “The deal with BYD is a big step toward fulfilling our goal to increase the number of e-cars on the road. We are eager to work with BYD and look forward to it much.

VIEWING THIS IN CONTEXT This isn’t the first auto rental contract, as I mentioned earlier, and since they can be so beneficial for a manufacturer, it’s likely not the last either.

Hertz has been the subject of several of our reports because of its business dealings with Tesla and Polestar and GM . Hertz and GM indicated that the latter intends to order 175,000 EVs from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, and BrightDrop within the next five years in the case of General Motors (the most recent example I’m aware of). This is one of the biggest client EV fleet expansions, and it includes everything from SUVs to pickup trucks to luxury cars and more.

Hertz will be able to get an expanded delivery of electric vehicles from GM thanks to the arrangement, which is valid until 2027. Over the course of the agreement, switching to EVs is anticipated to reduce emissions by 1.8 million metric tons, or the equivalent of 8 billion kilometers, compared to gasoline-powered vehicles.

We’ve seen more than just rentals for individual use.

Penske has made the decision to buy 750 Ford E-Transit battery-electric vans following a successful pilot run in Reading, Pennsylvania. Customers will be able to purchase the first batch of automobiles in Southern California, with other US areas gradually becoming available throughout the year.

A company that rents out construction equipment, Sunbelt Rentals, has also begun purchasing EVs. Earlier this year, it placed an order for 700 Ford F-150 Lightning electric trucks. Although it would seem that Sunbelt’s clients won’t be able to rent any of these vehicles, it’s important to keep in mind that the company has a wide range of offerings. It offers long-term rentals, equipment sales with servicing contracts, and popular day rentals that many contractors and amateurs take advantage of. For these services, it needs trucks. Many experts will realize that electric trucks have truly arrived once a reputable supplier of goods and equipment arrives in one.

While EV rentals will eventually become the standard, for the time being, they’re interesting to watch because they allow us to see who is about to find some new buyers.
