A New U.S. Cross-Agency Collaboration Will Aid in Developing a National EV Charging Network That Is Convenient, Affordably, Reliable, and Equitable

This week, the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) received a $1.5 million grant from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation to promote cooperation in the creation and implementation of a nationwide electric vehicle (EV) charging network that will benefit all Americans.

To guarantee that investments in EV charging station infrastructure are undertaken in a strategic, coordinated, efficient, and fair manner with public and private-sector partners, the partnership will bring together stakeholders from local, state, and federal government. The work will be essential to the Joint Offices’ ability to carry out its responsibilities under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, generally known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, in relation to investments in EV infrastructure.

The award’s primary focal areas are:

building capacity, highlighting best practices, and ensuring coordination throughout a nationwide EV charging network that also takes into account regional demands. determining the data, technical, and programmatic support required for the creation, implementation, and improvement of state EV charging schemes. improving communication between state and federal entities to enable prompt, efficient, and coordinated planning and execution of EV charging. Senior representatives from the 56 State and Territory Energy Offices, along with associates from the business and public sectors, make up NASEO. The 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico’s highway and transportation departments are all represented by AASHTO. Both are non-profit, non-partisan groups whose members and experience are crucial to the development of America’s energy and transportation systems.
