The New Maserati GranCabrio Prototype’s First Pictures

Maserati, the well-known Italian sports car maker, is getting set to introduce its third electric vehicle, the GranCabrio Folgore. Maserati has already produced two all-electric versions, the Grecale Folgore and GranTurismo Folgore. While still in the early stages of testing, the new Maserati GranCabrio prototypes are traversing the streets of Modena.

With its future aspirations of a range of 100% electrified luxury vehicles, Maserati is outpacing most other manufacturers of its quality. The new vehicles are meant to introduce the Folgore electric lineup, with which Maserati will set the standard in every market sector: by 2030, every vehicle in the lineup will be entirely electric.

The GranCabrio Folgore has been driving through the city at night to test its maneuverability and hitting the track at dusk to test its agility—stopping along the way for ideal photo ops, too. All of this is being done while gathering data that is crucial for the best optimization.

The GranCabrio Folgore is the GranTurismo Folgore’s drop-top variant. With the exception of the convertible top, they are virtually identical. The GranCabrio Folgore is totally camouflaged in the first official images released by Maserati, but it will essentially resemble the finished product.

The GranCabrio Folgore EV is anticipated to use a tri-motor electric drivetrain with two motors in the rear and one in the front, delivering a combined installed power of 1,206 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,350 Newton meters (995 pound-feet). Maserati claims that the battery pack, with a nominal capacity of 92.5 kWh (83 kWh useable), is capable of sending all four wheels a continuous 560 kilowatts (751 hp) of power.

The GranTurismo Folgore EV from Maserati can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and from 0 to 124 mph in 8.8 seconds. It can travel at a top speed of 319 km/h (198 mph). Given that convertibles often perform somewhat worse than hardtop counterparts, the GranCabrio Folgore EV will likely have a little lower top speed and acceleration.
