NSW Rolls Out a Lot of Superchargers

Australia’s New South Wales is scheduled for an massive supercharger rollout . “$39.4 million in the first round of Fast Charging Grants to co-fund 86 new fast and ultra-fast EV charging stations, each with four to 15 bays,” according to the New South Wales (NSW) state government (Liberal).

The Treasurer and Minister for Energy, Matt Kean, stated that “this investment will see the greatest, fastest and most comprehensive public electric vehicle charging network in Australia.” Mr. Kean travels in a Model 3 Tesla.

“Each of these stations will have at least two 175kW fast charging bays and two 350kW ultra-fast charging bays for electric vehicles, with some stations having up to 15 bays.

“All charging stations will be totally powered by renewable energy, and the ultra-fast chargers will be able to charge modern EVs from 20% to 80% in around 15 minutes. With hundreds more stations planned to be installed over the next few years, this fundraising round is the first of three that are anticipated.

Not just Tesla owners will gain from this. The National Roads and Motorists Association, BP Pulse, Evie Networks, Zeus Renewables, and Ampcharge were also given funding. Over the following two years, all stations in urban areas and along highways leading to regional hubs are anticipated to be finished. In Australia, where Teslas account for 80% of all EV sales, the company is an exception. Some members of the public are concerned that Tesla has not yet allowed non-Tesla automobiles to use its charging stations. But every single Tesla driver also pays taxes.

Some people think that Australia does not currently have a large enough demand from EV drivers to justify private industry going it alone because of the high expenses associated with installing fast chargers. A stronger business case may be established thanks to the massive surge of new EV models that will enter the Australian market in the following 12 months.

“The NSW Government has a target to add approximately 250 fast and ultra-fast charging stations in total across NSW, ensuring chargers are no more than 5km apart in metropolitan areas and no more than 100km apart on major roads and highways throughout NSW,” reads a statement from the state government.

Later this year, funding will be made available for even more chargers.
