I don’t sound like the average person when I hear the word “football” used. I see chubby middle-aged guys watching “the game” on television while donning the clothes of their preferred sports team, and perhaps even playing “fantasy football” in their free time. However, they still have the gall to make fun of Trekkies, furries, and other groups of people who dress up. After all, watching large, sweaty men tackle one other is their sport, which is very manly and heterosexual, but the other activities are absurd and may even be homosexual.
But if you ask folks anyplace else in the world about football, they’ll probably have a completely different idea in mind. We call it “soccer” in the United States, where it is a sport. Global football, as contrast to American football, is primarily played with actual feet, or (checks notes). They also have their own Super Bowl, but that World Cup, which teams from all around the world compete for, is a much greater event.
But when people travel from all over the world to one location, it has a significant negative impact on the environment. Fortunately, FIFA, the group that organizes the game, is making efforts to make it a cleaner event (even for Americans). The Hyundai Motor Company has stated with pride that it will provide 50% of the passenger transportation for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in environmentally friendly vehicles. This is a historic occasion since it is the first time in recorded history that such a huge competition has used environmentally friendly cars at this level.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 will get 616 automobiles from Hyundai Motor. 229 of those automobiles will be hybrid electric (HEV) and battery-electric (BEV) types, making up the remaining 446 of them to be passenger cars. In addition, it will supply 10 electric-powered Elec City buses for the occasion in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
According to Jaehoon Chang, president and chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor Company, “Hyundai Motor and FIFA share a strong commitment to make this year’s event a sustainable success through the use of clean transportation.” “We anticipate achieving our common goal of making the World Cup in Qatar a win-win for planet Earth and humanity by offering our eco-friendly hybrid and battery electric vehicles as ground transportation.”
INFORMATION ABOUT ITS GREEN OPERATION In order to ensure robust EV operations, Hyundai Motor is setting up a dedicated structure and support system. This includes providing Hyundai IONIQ 5 BEVs, Sonata HEVs, Tucson HEVs, and KONA HEVs, as well as Genesis G80 EV and GV70 EVs and Elec City buses to transport FIFA VIPs and staff and media representatives, and running road-side charging services for BEVs that have been discharged using the ground-breaking Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function on two IONIQ 5 BEVs. In order to assure the BEVs’ uninterrupted operation, FIFA will also supply 100 kW-150 kW EV chargers at the event’s parking facilities located in Doha, Qatar.
But it goes beyond technology. Managing is also very significant. The fleet vehicles will be continuously monitored by Hyundai Motor for any potential accidents or damage. If required, they will offer quick service responses such vehicle inspection, troubleshooting, and emergency dispatch. In order to enhance quality control when it comes to maintaining their fleets of vehicles, the company is also using a real-time vehicle control system. The technology combines all processes from storing the vehicles and deploying them in an emergency to fixing them and responding to accidents appropriately by recognizing any accident or damage in real time.
Throughout the duration of the competition, a committed staff from the HMC Headquarters Service, the Sub-Middle East Regional Service, and the Sub-Middle East Regional Quality Center will be on hand to help with local operations. When necessary, the crew will utilise the dealership service infrastructure in Qatar. Since October, Hyundai Motor has been providing all of the drivers operating the fleet with training on its HEVs and BEVs.
In addition to offering fleet vehicles, Hyundai Motor also introduced the Goal of the Century campaign in April, leading it with former England national football star Steven Gerrard. In addition to providing a way for individuals all around the world to get involved in creating change, the objective is to raise awareness of sustainability.
Recently, it was found that Team Century, which consists of 11, is one cohesive team. BTS, the global brand ambassador for Hyundai Motor, Nadia Nadim, a football player from Afghanistan who is also the UNESCO ambassador for Denmark, American fashion designer Jeremy Scott, Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn, documentary photographer Nicky Woo, and Boston Dynamics robot Spot are all members of this team.
AN EXISTING PARTNERSHIP Since 1999, when Hyundai agreed to sponsor 13 of FIFA’s events, including the 2002 World Cup staged in Korea and Japan, Hyundai and FIFA have been working together. But their collaboration doesn’t end there. Hyundai owns full rights to all upcoming FIFA events, including but not limited to the Women’s World Cup, the U-20 and U-17 World Cups (for both boys and girls), the Beach Soccer World Cup, the Futsal World Cup, and of course the World Cup itself, which is the most eagerly awaited event of them all.
At the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022TM, Hyundai will continue to assist FIFA, but this time they are working together to create a sustainable FIFA World Cup.
The dedication to the environment is also nothing new.
To unite world citizens for sustainability, Hyundai is working with FIFA to promote the Goal of the Century campaign this year. FIFA joined the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework for the first time in 2016 and has since actively worked with other sports federations, teams, athletes, and fans to achieve the objectives of The Paris Agreement.
Hyundai believes that football can bring people together and is the ideal vehicle to introduce environmental objectives. Hopefully this confidence about athletics yields fruitful outcomes. Undoubtedly, Hyundai has taken EV production extremely seriously and produces quality EVs that give rival manufacturers—including Tesla—a genuine run for their money. There are 800-volt charging methods, excellent range, and stylish appearances. So, despite the fact that this appears to be a marketing gimmick, genuine action supports it.
